Butt kicking Jay

Sam and I witnessed something pretty amazing today. We were sitting outside having dinner in our cabana, you know, the weather being 80 degrees and all. Anyway, a squirrel jumped from our roof into the pecan tree. From out of nowhere, a blue jay dive bombed the squirrel. It looked like he pecked him on the back. The blue jay kept it up, and the squirrel kept running all over the tree, but the jay wouldn't stop. Finally, the squirrel jumped to another tree then left our garden.

It was pretty amazing to see this beautiful little bird become a vicious fighter. I'd love to hire him to protect the pecan crop, but he's too irate at everything that moves, including us.

On another note, the pecan tree has started getting leaves at an unbelievable rate. From day to day it's hard to imagine how quickly the greenery is filling in. From brown sticks to a green tree in the matter of a week. Totally awesome.

Also, I've seen another thing for the first time in my life. Sam pulled down one of the hanging branches so that we could get a closer look at the leaf growth. There are thousands of little green feathery green things beside the leafs. We realized they were the birth stage of the pecans. Simply amazing to think these soft feathery things will turn into our delicious soft shell, giant pecans.

I know, I'm easily amused.
